Fate Reforced Sealed

Wow, two magic posts in a row. Look at me go. Don't get me wrong, this isn't meant to be a mtg blog only, just seems to be a recurring theme in my life right now. Anyways, last time I talked about draft form of magic. This time I will be talking about the other form of limited type which is called sealed. Basically you open a set number of packs (depends on which kind you want to play) and build a deck out of the cards that you open. Normally you would build a deck about 40-60 cards, depending on the number of packs you open. When we did this, we each opened five packs (one short of what you normally would). Needless to say, it would swimmingly for me. I opened over $50 of cards in one pack. For those of you that don't know, that pack cost less than $5. If I was the type of person who sold cards...just wow. I think all in all, we totaled the cards we opened at over $200 (at the time that they were opened). I didn't take any pictures of the game that we played but I squashed him. Here's the rares and mythics we opened.
These are my cards, I had the biggest pulls in terms of cost of cards. For those who are wondering, I opened Flooded Strand and Ugin in the same pack, back to back. I almost wanted to cry. And for those counting and things not coming up right, yeah that's six rares and mythics in five packs. Look at me stunting. Jk.
These were the cards that he pulled, again, yes there are seven cards in five packs, we are just that awesome/lucky.
Seriously though, we pulled really well. Overall, I think that our sealed went really well. We could have had a terrible game (we didn't) and it still would have been worth it. Sure, we don't sell cards but we now don't have to purchase any of these singles. And we immediately put most of these cards into some of our EDH decks so it worked out really well. Anyways, that's all for now. Sorry for two magic the gathering posts in a row. Until next time.

Legacy Cube Draft

I've never been one to do online drafts...or real life ones really. I should clarify before I go much further that I'm talking about Magic: The Gathering and an online client that I drafted on at one time. Drafting is when you open a bunch of packs, you only get to pick one card from the pack before you pass it to your left. You obviously will get the pack back, minus some cards. You repeat until everyone has completely opened three packs. Then you build a 40 card deck (normally you play with 60) and you go up against the others who drafted in your set with you. What's unique about this format is that it is a show of skill and decision-making skills because you have a limited pool of cards to play with, you can't just pick and fine-tune your deck as you normally can. Since it requires a whole lot of thought and attention, not really my strong suit when it comes to mtg. I much prefer the route of fine-tuning my deck and making it as perfect as I can before I could go against someone else. But he convinced me to play a legacy cube draft and I agreed because alcohol. It ended up being a lot more fun than I thought it would be. What I didn't realize was in this particular time of limited event, it basically the best of the best cards so no matter what you end up getting, you are likely to have a decent deck. We ended up with almost 10 planeswalkers in our deck. They are literally one of the best things you can pull during a limited event but they were everywhere during this particular draft so it made it less special, still awesome as hell. We ended up winning 2 out of the 3 games. One guy got so salty about losing, it was highly amusing in the end though. All in all, not a bad night I guess.
Pack 1, pick 1: I mean come on guys, look at all those planeswalkers.
Don't even pretend you're not impressed, he won the second game with only 8 seconds to spare after the client glitched out multiple times. Then had to play the second game, with no choice but to win, with only 3 minutes left on his clock. And someone he managed to pull out a win, how impressive that?

Just thought I would share my fun Magic adventures from this week. Sadly, the legacy cube draft is gone from mtgo. For the first time ever, I wish that it wasn't because I would actually do it again. As I stated earlier, and you hopefully remember, I hate limited events. But yeah, that was a fun little adventure for me.

Snickerdoodle Experiments

I've never made cookies that didn't come out of one of those pull-apart and put on the tray packages. That was poor English and I'm sorry but you knew what I meant. Don't get me wrong, I love those cookies. I've been known to get the whole tray in less than 24 hours (with some help, I'm not that terrible). But I made cookies that didn't come out of a package for the first time. They still came out of a box but its a step in the right direction! They were so yummy...until they completely cooled. I didn't know regular cookies got so hard and yucky if you let them completely cool down, it was quite of a disappointment. Oh well, lesson learned. They looked so delicious though and they were when they were fresh out of the oven.

You can't tell me those don't look so good. I will have to try again sometime soon, it was fun even if the outcome wasn't exactly what I wanted out of the experiment. Until next time.

In the Beginning

Well, here I am. This is my blog, not the first one and probably not the last, though I hope that it might be. I've always looked at blogging as an outlet but I haven't found the right way to make it work yet. I've been trying to force myself into this little box, to be the type of the blog that I think people would want to read. This time, I'm going to actually try and be myself. A novel concept, I'm sure. As with everything else, you should start with introductions.
I'm Ashley Renee. You can call me a variation of either of those names, or something completely different. I'm really not all that concerned. Nicknames pertaining to my shortness are also expected though not preferred. Last month, I turned 21 years old. Woo, I can legally drink in the United States. Currently, I'm a business major at the online campus of a university here. Not my first choice but one that will hopefully have good outcomes for the future.
I started this blog as a place to just talk, about whatever was on my mind. Whether that's wrestling or books or comics or the latest show on Netflix. Basically whatever comes to mind. I hope that my ramblings might be of interest to someone but perhaps I will just be throwing words out into the unknown void. I guess we will find out eventually.
